Theme: We Are a Work of Art

Every great work of art reflects the love and creative brilliance of the artist, and so it is with us. We are a divine work of art.  In this evening's celebration, we will affirm this through singing, silence, sharing, and a special creative activity that will help us deepen into the awareness of our own beauty. Simply put, we will be celebrating our own magnificence!

Concerned that creating a just and sustainable future sounds too exhausting and expensive?  This evening will offer many ways to see spirituality, self-care and community unity as vital parts of creating a positive future for all, making the process of getting there more enjoyable - and effective. Presenters will share inspiring tools and stories from community members and congregations who are working to integrate personal sustainability and long-term community well-being. We will then explore these themes in more depth in small learning circles of your choice: congregational activism; community greening and spirituality; diversity and community unity; time and money challenges and solutions.

Can we find a way to celebrate and support personal health, justice, soulful living and community sustainability all together? Come create the answers together in this lively and celebrative evening!

Dinner and childcare are provided.  Additional potluck offerings are invited, and participants are encouraged to bring their own table settings to minimize clean-up.  If you plan to attend and wish to lend a hand, please contact Miranda: (607) 277 1241.  For childcare, please RSVP by Sept. 8: miranda@sustainabletompkins.org, (607) 277 1241.

"Fierce Grace" is a moving, inspiring, and at times humorous biography of Ram Dass, spiritual teacher and author of numerous bestselling books, including Be Here Now and Still Here.
Ram Dass first went to India in 1967. He was still Dr. Richard Alpert, an already eminent Harvard psychologist and psychedelic pioneer with Dr.Timothy Leary. He had continued his psychedelic research until that fateful Eastern trip in 1967, when he traveled to India. In India, he met his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, affectionately known as Maharajji, who gave Ram Dass his name, which means "servant of God." Everything changed then - his intense dharmic life started, and he became a pivotal influence on a culture that has reverberated with the words “Be Here Now” ever since. Ram Dass’s spirit has been a guiding light for three generations, carrying along millions on the journey, helping free them from their bonds as he has worked his way through his own.
